Question about using dimmer switch with motors.

These questions is really for theoretic rather than practical.

Could a dimmer be used as variable speed switch for a motor?

If it would work as a variable speed switch, would using two dimmers lower the rpm, if the rpm was still too high on one dimmer?

In theory with the right type of dimmer and a motor that didn't object to distorted supply waveforms it might work.

A much better idea would be to select a motor speed control unit designed for the type of motor you want to control.

Even if it worked you certainly can't use two dimmers.

Try using a potentiometer
