R63 (E27) LED, which dimmer?

Hi,

I am in the process of redecorating my dining room which has 4 flush r63 spots attached to a dimmer. I don't want to mess with the ceiling so I intend replacing the r63 housings and using r63 dimmable LED's.

Question is what dimmer should I be using for this?

This is what I was planning on using https://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/VLLQ1W.html
load of 4 x 6w is in spec so don't see any reason why it won't work, it's just all the literature refers to Gu10.

I want to make sure before getting stuck.

Most reputable LED manufacturers have a dimmer compatability chart on their website.
Like this one from Philips CLICK

The Varilight dimmer you have linked to is usually OK for most dimmer-able lamps, but it is better to check with the maker of the lamp.

Agree with above, its best to choose a decent lamp and get there recomendations.
As for new R63 housings, have you sourced them yet, they are pretty rare nowadays, last ones I see were in Toolstation, but being discontinued

Ive been informed by Megaman that all their dimmable LED lamps are leading edge, which makes them compatible with "standard" dimmers. Whether you can meet the minimum load requirements of the dimmer...

So to answer your question, can you provide a link to the lamps you mention? They may be dimmable but by what? A leading edge or a trailing edge dimmer?

The LedLite dimmer that you linked to is a leading edge dimmer, so you should be good to go..

Thanks for the replies, I'll do what you say and select bulb then the dimmer.

I had noticed R63 were hard to get so may consider other options that fit the holes.
I have 4 of these in the dining room and a further 6 in the lounge working off a double dimmer (3 each) which I'll be doing in a month so I'll go for something consistent.

Have you thought about something like this. There are many like this to choose from, but this gives you an idea.

They look much cleaner than R63 downlights. Or aurora (and I'm sure others) make adapter plates so you can fit standard downlights in the existing holes - not as neat a solution but perhaps cheaper, and you may get a bit blinded by 4 of the bigger fittings.

Very pretty. At £26 inc the lamp it's not too bad.
