I have a concrete slab floor and I need to raise it by 2-3inches what would be the best way of doing this?

Originally I was going to pour some concrete, however I have recently seen some self-levelling compounds which can pour to a depth of 2inches is this a viable option of are there negatives to this method?

Thanks in advance.

It depends how big is the area, how much time you want to spend on this and your budget.
I always found best to leave final screed to specialised companies, unless it's a smaller area I can do without breaking my back and too much swearing.
2-3 inches can be done with self levelling compound which goes up to 80mm, either bal or mapei.
If it needs to be concrete, you better clean and prime what's already there before pouring more concrete on top of it.

If you have a mixer? you could do the screed yourself, as flat as possible, them use a thin coat of SLC to finish off, will be cheaper than making up 50mm of SLC across the whole floor, it doesn't go that far at depth.
