Really jerky DS3 when pulling away (Ed.)

Hi, I’m driving a 2013 1.6 DS3. It’s got 104 on the clock with a full s/h.
On pulling away, up to around a fast walking pace, the car judders a huge amount (phones vibrating out of holders) it’s the same in reverse, and was getting worse.
We’ve had a new clutch and flywheel. Still the same problem, though not as bad, then changed engine and gearbox mounts, with no change.
The garage are now scratching their head a bit and are unsure what to explore next.
Anyone any ideas??

Strange indeed .. I would have thought that any clutch/flywheel faults would be eliminated once the clutch was fully engaged.
Any misfiring at low revs. that cease once the revs, rise?
Tried pulling away in a higher gear?
 
Hi,
There's no misfire and pulling away in 2nd it was almost as bad, not tried it since the new clutch was fitted as it's still in the garage.
 
Shouldn't be that difficult for a garage to diagnose.

Is it your regular garage ? Did you give them the problem and let them diagnose it?

Need to identify if it is transmission fault, or bent,broken, loose items etc.

Does ii only happen when cold, or every time etc

There's no misfire and pulling away in 2nd it was almost as bad, not tried it since the new clutch was fitted as it's still in the garage.
Any changes with the new clutch are academic I suppose, as having to avoid using first isn't the way to go in the long term.
Sounds like a job for a specialist with knowledge of your particular model.

Have you done a search for a user forum for your make of car? Over the years I've found them very informative when it comes to problem solving.

Have you tried pulling away at high revs, with lots of clutch slippage until it is fully released? If so, what happens then?

Does it seem like it might stall, or does the engine feel strong and it might therefore be a transmission issue alone?


How does it drive after set-off? Completely normally, any slight foibles, or anything more noticeable?

It's a different garage,as we're now the other end of the country, but they come very highly recommended.
I've tried a couple of DS3 forums to no avail.
Apart from pulling away (or reverse) everything is fine.
When pulling away like a teenager, it's either fine, or I don't notice it. It's doing it all the time, but definitely worse when warm.

One here though, and without more info., not so.

Could be a daft as an electronic handbrake still grabbing, then releasing above a certain speed.
(Not saying it is, just that daft things can be overlooked).

Depend if and what any garage was told.

Were they asked to diagnose or just do a job they were asked to for example?

Lots of possible and probable causes, but relatively simple to find the area of the issue and then the answer
 


My junk Zafira B had massive clutch judder when I bought it (it was cheap). I replaced the serpentine belt and tensioner as part of routine maintainence and the judder disappeared. The old tensioner was much weaker than the new one and all I can think was the old belt was resonating in some way to affect the crank sensor causing the judder.
 
For sure, this is a real head scratcher........I guess there are no trouble codes apparent?
I think I'd be looking for issues in the driveshaft train, but if that seems OK then maybe the vehicle has a fuelling issue just above tickover?
I assume that the air and fuel filters are good here.

There's not enough information in there to do anything but guess.

It needs a test drive possibly to identify if it's transmission, fuel, air, brakes, electrics etc and then work it down from there
 
I agree.
I would like to ascertain if this problem was there with the old clutch and if so, to what degree, having seen clutches so badly put in the engine was ready to climb out of the cab!
