Rechargeable Electric Mower

My petrol pull-start mower is too heavy for me to use and I'm struggling to pull the cord to start.
I need a new battery mower for a fairly large garden. I would like the charge to give 60 minutes use at least. Any suggestions on the best model to buy.
 
The length and the wetness of the grass makes a huge difference to battery life. 60 minutes is pushing it for non commercial models.

What blade / cutting width do you want?
How big is the lawn in square meters?
Do you want to collect or mulch?

36V (2 x 18) battery jobs may suit from any of the well known makes. A second spare set of batteries may be wise to swap if one set runs out. There's a few lawnmower specialist shops in Norfolk I recall.

I will look at Einhell when my petrol mower dies as I'm pleased with the hedge trimmer I have from them, provided it has a metal cutting blade. My son has a tiny lawnmower from them that takes the same batteries, but that uses plastic blades.
 
Budget: £200 to £350 I guess.
Lawned area is probably 200ft x 100ft.
Collect grass.
A decent size cutting width. I walk up and down enough times as it is.
Yes, I could change batteries halfway through, but Id still like strong enough, powerful batteries.
There are so many makes and models it's hard to choose.

Do you have an existing battery power tool, if so buy the same make to share batteries. I am seriously considering changing to the ferrex 40V as I already have several 40V batteries for the 20/40V range tools. the only thing holding me back is that the existing mower is still functional. when it packs up that what I will get. If you have 3 or 4 spare batteries you can pretty much keep going till the job is done. It was about 100 last year for the lawnmower, then you have to factor in the batteries and charger to buy as well, but should come in under your budget. Worth getting a brushless model if available in the range you choose as the battery tends to last longer between charges as they are a little more efficient.
 
For that area and run time you need a budget of around £700 plus batteries and charger. Long wet grass will dramatically reduce run time. You won't therefore get away with one battery unless the grass is short and dry. Commercial cordless mowers are probably there but not diy imo. Search machinery nation on you tube, he does a good comparison of battery mowers.
 
whats the make model of petrol mower you have now

are there any lawnmower companies near you, so you can try if weight/manoverabilty an issue

I have looked into a few for my lawn to replace a Honda IZY 18" - that i thought may have a problem, although it seems not , as i just cut the grass for the first earlier today - WET took a couple of hours on petrol
I am thinking of the EGO range
MY nephew has a small one with 2 batteries and that seems to work well
BUT as said , thats way above the Budget you posted

i'm looking at the domestic range - probably a 21"

I've got a lot of thinking to do.
Didnt realise it was so complicated!
I think I better go to the local lawn mower people round here and have a good look.
 
We bought a reasonable unit a couple of years ago. I quickly found I needed the larger batteries for the unit - and with a larger garden if its not too long I can cut it all on a full charge of the larger batteries BUT I always put the smaller ones on to charge when I start so if they do run out I can swap to the smaller batteries to finish off.

Ours is a powerbase from Homebase and its nice and light

200 x 300 ft = 5,500 square metres... That is big.
You'll want a self-propelled rather than push mower and that will bump up the price.

Few domestic units will be rated to run for long enough continuously and you may/will need to factor in rest/cooling down periods for the motor. You will need two sets of batteries; another extra cost.

An electric start petrol mower may not have such limitations? Self propelled or even small ride on. Again, though, those will likely exceed your budget - even second user from lawnmower places.

Einhell do one that's £525 ish from some outlets (Wickes) with 4 x 18V 4Ah batteries ... and can take all 4 for extended runtime. Still only recommended for up to 700 sq m lawns though!

i have 565 SM and that takes about an hour to cut with the honda izy - plus a small front garden , hence why the shop said the domestic EGO would be OK for that sort of area
you have 10 times that
garden is an L shape - 33yds x 12yds and then 20yds x 14yds - paced out - just to get an idea
200ft x 100ft = 67x33yds - wow .....
