Recycling centre DIY waste charges

Getting ready for my bathroom fit at home so this weekend stripped the plasterboard from 1 wall in the adjacent bedroom and put a new stud wall up, then boarded over. The plan is to make the bathroom 7 inches bigger, don't ask. Took the 4 bags of old p/board to the dump, we agreed it was the equivalent of 2 sheets so charged £12, fair enough, haven't got a problem with that, even though to buy two sheets isn't much more than that.

I understand they won't send if off to landfill as it can give off a gas if mixed with 'certain other waste', what puzzles me is not that many years ago it went into a skip for recycling into fertilizer, as it's full of sulfate.

Since the Ukraine war fertilizer is in short supply so the price has doubled or trebled, why ain't they using it for fertilizer.
