Remove tile adhesive

I am going to re-tile my screeded floor. What is the best way to remove the tile adhesive (cement based) ?

When fitters replaced the floor at work, they had a manual tool that was similar to a garden roller with a chisel like blade on the front. If it is possible to hire for a weekend, it would work?
Otherwise, I’d get a sharp spade and a smaller hand chisel (wide)
