I did a quick experiment with my jet washer, which seems to have the desired effect (see pic below) removing the blistered paint back to what looks to me like relatively sound render. A second pass is clearly needed before treatment and repainting. This was just a quick try.
My question is how to reduce the mess. Paint flakes fly off *everywhere*. Do professionals use some kind of temporary screening or cowling hood when doing similar. Or would permeable ground sheets trap paint flakes but allow water to drain away.
I appreciate that others might use a needle scaler or scutch comb chisel (which I don't have), but I guess that's also quite messy albeit dry and dusty.
Thoughts?
