We are decorating the downstairs of our 1930's house and have removed the 'skirting boards' - plain wood about 12 inches tall - as well as dado rails. Both of these have previously been painted with a dark wood stain and then overprinted with gloss paint.
We now have 3 lines of thick stain/paint about 2 inches wide running horizontally around the entire ground floor, hall, stairs and landing!
How do we need to prepare the walls so that these do not show through? Ideally I would like to paint the walls directly but realise we may need to use a lining paper. Will these show through the paper?
