Rendering Gable End - Advice on best action

The render on my gable end is causing all kinds of issues in the house with penetrating damp - it's coming in around 4 places.
I asked the neighbour if I could look out of his attic loft to see the damage and it is obvious that it is cracked everywhere and will need redoing - the previous owner appers to have painted over the cracks with something but it's not worked.

Before I go ahead and get quotes etc, I was wondering if anyone had any ideas as to the best method of doing this - I was thinking of getting scaffolding up and removing all the old stuff myself.

Some state that lime should be used, some say a mesh should be used, some say K-Rend or even a sprayable render.. I don't know where to start - I just want to get it seald up as it get battered by the elements.

What do you think the best course of action will be to fix it and to prevent future cracks etc.

Why not post pics showing clearly the whole both sides of your roof?
Pics showing water damage, & its locations, inside the house will also help?
Use a camera on a stick to show the top of the stacks.

Your neighbour's stack might be contributing towards your damp problems, & your difficulties might be causing damp problems for the neighbour's?. So any work would be best done in conjunction with them.
Plus you would have to work off your neighbour's roof.
Its clear to see where previous repairs have taken place or been attempted eg parapet copings.

There are a number of obvious faults but for now pics please.

Why not post pics showing clearly the whole both sides of your roof?
Pics showing water damage, & its locations, inside the house will also help?
I can try and do this but I can see certain specific cracks in the pictures and know that it is where the water is coming in, so didn't see the need.
Use a camera on a stick to show the top of the stacks.
These have both been recapped when I had new flues installed.

I spoke to them (the pictures are from inside their loft) and will likely repoint and render his stack too as that is one of the areas where water is getting in.
Plus you would have to work off your neighbour's roof.
He is fine with this.

The roof was redone and the copings were replaced with a membrane underneath so it's due to that.

removing it isn’t a diy job as you will be potentially allowing water behind the lead work and loosening the copings making bigger problems.
This forum is the wrong place for this .
I’d suggest you ask the question in the plasterers forum where you will get a sensible professional reply from experts.
where tradesmen will advise you instead of feeling the need to discredit other peoples opinions.
