Hi all,

I have an outer wall with clear cracks on which are letting water through. The water is coming through the plaster all along the wall in two rooms. The outer wall clearly needs re-rendering but I have been told this time of year is not great and it would be worth waiting. The thing is, I’m not sure how bad the internal damp will be in 4 months time. What would be the best course of action? Render now or wait and take a risk with the damp?

No question, wait till spring; if you try and do it in winter, you'll just have to redo it in a few years time anyway. But looking at the outside wall, I don't think that the cracks in it are the problem, and it's more likely to be down to the flashing.

If you can get up there, then rake the crack out a bit, blow the dust out, and put some sealant in it. But where is the chimney breast in the last picture, in relation to the first picture.
