Lifting and repairing the floor
After 100 years with little settlement it was time to repair the floor on the 2nd floor, the floor beams for the 2nd floor are resting on a brick wall which is running through the middle of the house.
Over time with little settlement and shrinking the floor beams one side had dropped by a 1inch over 8’.
70% of this floor is in the hall had we had previously repaired this one by adding / attaching new beams/joists to the side of the old ones, thus levelling out the floor
My son lifted yesterday the floor, and took out all the cut nails. Ready for me to put the floor back again, but then level
It is amazing how much the boards have shrunk over time; I reckon I need to add at least 4 new boards. Then it’s all nice and snug again.
