I'm going to finally get some time to finish and repair the front door. Nothing major wrong with it other than the panels have hairline cracks in them (images to follow).

I have filled them previously and it hasn't worked. I used the 2 part filler, it lasts for sometime and then the weather changes which being a solid door makes it expand and contract, as this happens the filler then falls out and gets pushed cracking the paint and showing through.

I dug it all out again and did it and again the same thing happens. How do you stop this happening? What's the best product to use.

On a side note has anyone used Benjamin Moore paint for trim?

As above but RepairCare are expensive (but have a wider range). I used to use Timbabuild when a mate of mine could order them for me via his trade account. I now use Oxera. It is pretty much a clone of Timbabuild's range of epoxy resin fillers but substantially cheaper- £25 incl delivery for the 1 hour flexible resin.

If the panels are splitting, the above products will help but are not guaranteed to work. You may need to break the paint seal between the panel and door, and then run a MS polymer over the newly formed gap. The panels are supposed to be able to "float" (to expand and contract). Over time the paint build up glues them in. I use an oscillating saw to free them up.

If you do purchase repaircare/timbabuild/Oxera, you will need to spend another £30 for the application gun, unless you go for the Oxera tubs. I have no experience of using the tubs though. Mix thoroughly, much more than you would with 2k polyester resin filler.

Hi,

Thanks for all the replies, I saw that you can get a 1 tube version of the repair care - I really don't fancy buying a gun just to do one door. I see what you mean about painting the panels.

I've attached an image from the back and front of the door so you can see the issue. While it doesn't show fully on the back of the door the joints themselves seem to show through.

Had some feedback from technical at Repari Care, they said the groves are too small to usse the standard items and that I should use SuperFinish.

For the joints on the rear with the movement I would have to router out 10mm to use the standard repair care stuff.

Did email Oxera but they never replied.
