Just moved into a 40 year old house, ripped off the wallpaper to find a crack about 5mm over the fireplace which goes right upstairs into the bedroom above (although not as wide up there). We have been told by the gas man that it is because we have as pre cast flue. The chimney breast wall gets extremely hot when the gas fire is on and the old wallpapaper had lifted above the fire.
We dont want a lot of expense replacing the flue. Is there a certain kind of plaster or a way in which we can minimise the problem as we plan to wallpaper as well and want it to stay on.
