Repairing or Refinishing a Bona Carl's 90 Finished Floor

We have natural oak hardwoods that were finished with Carl's 90 oil before we moved in 3 years ago. Despite instructions to the contrary, the cleaners swapped water on the floor and we have "blotches' in places throughout the flat. We also have a general dulling that comes from having fairly high traffic.

First, can we reapply the oil, or do we need to sand the floors?

Second, if we re-oil this floor, would we be able to use a tinted oil for a slightly darker colour?

Third, I do not think the contractor used anything other than the Carl's 90 on the floor. Should we seal it with a hard wax oil as well?

The refinishing product for Bona Carl's 90 is Bona Carl's 25.
These are just natural pine oils with a Naphta chemical drier. The 25 has more Naphta to re-soften the existing oil and allow more oil into the surface.

Depending upon exactly what has caused the blotches (if their was anything in the water) this should solve the problem. Dig up the Bona data sheet to see how to apply as their is a fire risk with all drying oils.

I would not recommend a coloured or tinted oil as the uptake into the existing oil will be varied and could result in worse patches. If you want to colour the floor you would be best to re-sand.

Yes you could apply a single coat of hardwax oil over the surface. This would definitely give it more water protection in case the cleaners try washing it again.

Thanks. If we do a couple of coats of the Carl's 25 and then the hard wax, it will darken things up a little anyway, right? That is all we are looking for.

Firstly I would only use a single coat of Carl's 25. The point of this type of oil is that it is in the wood, not on the wood. If you apply too much, or fail to remove excess properly, it tends to sit on the surface looking glossy. and takes for ever to dry. A single coat should do it.

As for darkening things up, the Naphta will darken the wood slightly, but only very slightly.

There are coloured hardwax oils. Unlike the coloured oils which would have a varied uptake, you should get an even coloured finish because these are on the surface, but be careful, as they wear, the colour goes with it and areas where you walk will look worn fairly quickly.

We are putting a coat of Carls 25 down. How long does that need to dry before applying a hardwax oil?

After the hardwax oil is applied, how long should it dry before we replace furniture and rugs?

Carls 25 - Hardwax oil probably only needs a few hours drying between the coats, just make sure you remove the excess before putting the hardwax down.

Before putting furniture onto hardwax oil, it will vary depending upon temperature, ventilation and the thickness you applied, around 24-48 hours for light furniture, but around 5 days before you cover it with a rug (or anything else that will stop air-flow)

Bona Carl's 90

When applying Carls 90 oil to the parquet board, the technology was violated and the floor was terrible because in some places there was a lot of oil, and in some places it was rubbed late. Tell me, is there a way to remove Carls 90?
