Finlux 48" TV - knackered screen x 2

we have a number of TVs at work and 5 Finlux large ones.
2 of which have knackered screens. It's the classic vertical lines and one picture is all over to one side.

For aesthetic reasons we'd prefer to repair rather than replace as having matching TVs helps.

Question is, how affordable is it to change a screen? It is often cheaper to buy a new TV rather than repair a 5 year old but we'd need at least four the same

can it be something simple like a cracked board? I believe one was allowed to fall face down onto carpet having been stored on it's short edge against a wall?

Anybody had a screen replaced?

thanks

The process of changing a screen is fairly easy, albeit with the risk of cracking the new screen if it's not handled carefully, especially with larger screens.

The issue is the cost of parts. As you've already guessed, TVs are now pretty-much a disposable commodity item, and so whilst some manufacturers hold spares stock of screens, the cost of those parts often makes a repair uneconomical compared to the falling price of newer TVs. If it's a smashed screen then it's game over effectively. Something simpler such as a backlight issue can be fixed with 3rd party spares + labour for a total of £150-£250. The lines on the screen fall somewhere in the middle.

In general, the causes are
  • loose ribbon cable - an easy fix just to reseat
  • faulty T-Con board - simple swap-out
  • bad ribbon cable joint bond at the screen or on any bonded board joint - harder to fix - test by pressing on joint to make temporary connection
There's a YT vid here covering the sorts of line issues and a T-Con board replacement. YT will have lots of other videos on ribbon faults.

Cheers

I thought that was the case. More hopeful than expectant!
The "crack" changes the picture as it flexes.
It's not the cost of a repair or replacement, it's the fact that we have 5 and I'd like them all the same
