Hi all,

New to this site but have a question ....

We had our separate toilet and bathroom which have been knocked into one and therefore have two airbricks and two windows (with openings), I'm looking at installing an extractor fan

Option a) is to replace one of the air bricks with an extractor fan with built in humidity to vent straight out to the outside world, b) Install a ceiling mounted fan and vent via the soffit's or c) install ceiling vent with inline and external venting.

straight through would be easiest.
You will need a ladder or staff either way, to get to the soffit or the brick wall.
Wall mounted fan will need power dropped from the loft, a core drill and use a liner to stop the cavity filling up.

One advantage of the soffit is that if access to the wall vent is difficult, then within reason, the soffit exit doesn't need to be in the area of the wall vent. (say a porch below)
Another is that the ceiling mount can be done with no internal bathroom wiring.
However you need headroom for the fan to extract the steam and then any condensation to drain downwards to the soffit.
Accessing a soffit from indoors isn't as easy as it seems.

If the airbrick is large enough you can simply reduce internal opening with plasterboard or cement board and fit your fan in it without the need to alter the outer vent .
