Replacing bathroom light with LED downlight

Replacing an old bathroom light that takes a G10 bulb with one single LED downlight, link below.

My current wiring looks like this:


Inside of the downlight to be installed:


After i connected the wires and flicked the fuse back on i pulled the chord and the downlight came on but when i switched off it tripped the fuse.

But now after switching back on the fuse the downlight comes on without even switching on with the pull chord in the first place and pulling the chord doesn’t switch off the downlight. Tried a different pull chord but still had the same problem.

Am i going wrong with the wiring somewhere?

Totally different to how the old light was connected, look again at your pic of how that was connected.

You have indeed wired it totally wrong .
As said above ,look at your original wiring ,the two browns do not connect to the light fitting. The blue wire with brown sleeving is the switched live ,it is not a neutral

I mirrored the wiring on my old fitting like this and got no power whatsoever

We're the two brown wires copper conductors fully in contact with each other and tightened up into a terminal block ,and their insulation not preventing good connections ?
Do you have a multimeter ?

No multi meter to hand but i can sort one out and test tomorrow. As far as the wiring goes in the second image does this look correct as long as brown wires in terminal block are properly installed?

Yes , provided the two blue wires have not been mixed up ,and the brown sleeve has actually been put on the switched live ( and not the neutral) by you or someone before you. Hence the multimeter needed .

Bare in mind you earlier put a dead short across the neutral terminal and may have damaged the unit.
Do you have a Plugtop and flex that you can test the light remotely

Yep…damaged the unit. Replaced with a new one and all good. Thanks all.
