Hi,

Please can I have an idiot-proof guide to fixing my telephone socket face plate which we use for our internet connection. The plastic flap that lifted up on the face plate has snapped off and so the socket would not securely connect as normal. I've unscrewed the plate, and the plug can connect directly without the plate and the internet works as normal. When I try to reattach the plate and connect again, I cannot get a secure connection as the plug will only sit loosely.

Is it simply a case of lining this up properly to get the plug to reconnect again, with the face plate on? Will I need a replacement plate or will it still work even with the flap snapped off? Likely a stupid question but I've never done anything to the socket before, and I don't want to mess around and make anything worse.

Thanks

Just need to buy a new chrome master socket and swap if your current one is broken.
Other option is a chrome socket with phone and internet built in then you don't need the adapter filter.
It's a simple DIY job if you're happy to do it as only 3 wires need to be connected.

Electrician could do it if you know one. I don't think phone company will cover that repair for free?

and strictly speaking as that is a metal faceplate it needs an earth connection. (I know..) And as wayners says just replace it.

Looking at the first image you have posted I'm not surprised you cannot get the plug to connect with the socket. On R/H side the 2 PCB retaining lugs are missing, broken off.
A new, replacement "Master" faceplate unit is needed. It's only 2 wires, most likely pushed into Insulation Displacement Connector (you can cheaply buy a plastic tool to insert the wires) but may be screwed terminations.

I think the two lugs that Fred refers to have not broken off, the PCB sits under then and is only held by the clips on the other side. So slip the PCB under the lugs then push down on the opposite side and it should clip in
