Hello Forum members
I hope you are able to help.

I have a house built in 1930's and have old floorboards squeaking which I need to replace before new carpets are fitted.

The approx size of the current floor boards are 5" (130mm) wide and 18-20mm in depth.

I have been looking all around but cannot find these sizes any where. I was wondering if anyone is aware of any builders merchants or specialist places that I can order the floorboards.

Many thanks
LK

A random search shows Wickes do them in 119mm width, that may suffice if it's a first floor non t&g board, the gaps either side being only 5mm. Or rip or plane down a larger board.

18 to 20mm thick is a pretty standard thickness, so if you are looking for square edged boards a timber merchant who offers a cutting or machining service should be able to assist. If, on the other hand, you need t & g boards, you need to consider changing to whatever width you can obtain

Hi blup thank you for your help. If I lay the carpets would it not show a line as the size is small in width?

Thanks jobandknock. I will have to explore timber merchants and see what have they got. I am not fussed about t&g as in long run if I need to lift them up it's just more hassle

Thanks lk

Wooden slivers.

Wickes also do them in 137mm width, you could clamp a number together vertically and plane off the excess, if you are concerned about the carpet dropping.

I think that's the bes idea. I will pop in today to wickes and see what is available.

Thank you so much
