Rollei p360 slide projector

I have a Rollei P360 slide projector - the fan motor runs, the bulb lights and i can move the slide cassette manually - so it is workable for the odd occasion. Its the type with a straight cassete and a wired remote which mounts on the side.
How does the automatic slide mechanism work ? When i press the button a solenoid clicks but nothing happens. Is there a separate motor or does the slide mechanism run off the fan motor using a belt and clutches etc ? Just curious to see how these things work.

Have you tried taking the top cover of the projector off?

From what I've seen of the service manual schematics, the fan motor does indeed have a belt and pulley system. I haven't gone further in to it than a quick glance though, so you'll need to do your own investigation from there. The P360 is from the late 70s - not sure how long the model ran for though - but if the main belt perished then that could be your problem solved. Forty-odd years for a rubber belt, chances are it's knackered so would need replacing anyway.

Success ! I dismantled the casing and found the belt was just a few bits of dried up rubber stuck to the pulleys. But my luck was in !! Someone had bought a spare belt and stuck it inside the top cover and it fitted. The way it works is that one part of the slide mechanism is spinning all the time and when you press the button a solenoid kicks the mechanism into action and it does a complete action to move one slide along, then stops. You can set auto mode so the slide changes every 2,4 or 8 seconds.
Unplug from mains - there are exposed live wires inside. Leave the top bulb access cover in place so the reflector and condenser don't fall out - turn the projector over. To remove the bottom cover you remove the two large feet, 4 large screws and 6 small screws. Do not remove the screws with red paint - they are mounting screws for components. This should be enough to access the drive belt area.
Also take out the lens buy turning. Finally you remove the manual slide lever by undoing two philips screws to allowthe rest of the casing to be removed although not necessary to access the belt pulleys.
