Rough costing of patio

Hi Guys,

I’ve currently booked in a few quotes for a patio done.
The length been 7 metres by 6 meters. The ends are going to be joined making a triangle with a slight S bend. We’re looking to have a step up by roughly 4 inches and an block edging. The plot is currently just grass.
We’ve seen some rainbow coloured indian stone we can get as project packs £400 for 20 square meters.
The first quote was for 10k to me this seems a lot. I understand there is a lot of labour and waste removal.
Any advice on cost wether its worth buying materials myself as this seems a cheaper option.

I think patios used to cost about £100/m supply and lay, which would make your job say £5k

When I was looking at the price of driveways last year I concluded the going rate was about £80 per square metre, so for a driveway the size of your patio about £3.5k.

I'd have thought the labour involved with laying a patio would be fairly similar, as would the waste removal, etc. I guess if access is poor there might be additional labour in shifting materials, but wouldn't have thought that was significant in the grand scheme.

I'd definitely get some more quotes and see how they fair.

I thought that, I’ve looked at some of his other pieces and a couple are similar. The quite was for 110 sqmts to include wastage based on the shape which I can’t quite get my head around. The indian stone he quoted was £80 a square meter which looking around is crazy.
I have a couple more to come quote next week.

Hi Martin, I’ve been looking back at a couple of similar quotes for jobs we have completed. Straight forward turf out, patio in jobs are relatively easy to price 22mm mixed colour scheme should be £100.00 sq m no more than that even with soldier borders and split level. That includes all materials, skips , machine and labour. Hope this helps.
