Hi all.
I have a chalet style home and the upstairs bedrooms have sloped walls either side due to the shape of the house and size of roof. the bathroom currently has a dormer (when i bought it) but i was hoping to get a very rough estimate on how much a dormer on either side of the house about 3m long to square up the wall and add a little more space in the bedrooms
many thanks

Oh really, I was always under the belief that you wouldn’t need planning permission for dormers as they don’t go higher then the original building neither go wider?

They change the appearance of the roof, which may diminish the beauty of your neighbourhood.

Sometimes permission will be refused for the front but granted for the rear (not visible to the public, from the road).

Every house in the neighbourhood has at least one as that’s what the bathroom is in, to have a window. The dormers would be on the side as that’s how the house is positioned. It’s look kind of like a scandonavian home.
So as every home has one I don’t think it would effect the beauty too much

If a precedent is set on your road and someoone already has the layout you want, chances are it won't be an issue.

They'd look a bit stupid denying permission when others have been given permission by the same authority to do exactly the same alteration.

I know perfectly well what they're like. I am speaking from experience!!

They refused me PP for a lean-to extension stating there was no precedence in the area. Five doors down a resident had done exactly what I was proposing and their plans were approved without contest from residents or council members only a year before.

When I pointed this out to them, it was approved.
