Hello All,

Don't know if you've noticed them in your local Homebase store: Sheets and rolls of rusty steel, imported all the way from wonderful China... Even flame-shape laser cut standy-up rusty things to make you feel.... well, anyone know?

https://whitesgroup.com.au/resources/brands/oxy-shield.html

As if we haven't got enough rusty metal lying around with nothing better to do.

The description made me smile: "designed to impart a decorative rust-look without the inherent degradation of regular steel." - try taking yours back after it's disintegrated 10 years after you bought it! :p

Comments (and flames!) welcome!

What is the actual issue sorry? (Meant in a nice way)

Worth bearing in mind that the EU proposed increasing the tariffs to counteract the Chinese dumping cheap steel, but this was vetoed by...the UK government!

"Why do we (have to) import rusty bits of (scrap) all the way from there?"

Point about tariffs noted! Roll on BREXIT (now that'll open a can of worms I'm sure!)

Tariffs would have reduced the amount of Chinese steel flooding the market - it was the UK government that vetoed this.

Simply put in absolute terms, it's cheaper to import than produce here if these trade practices are not regulated.

It's probably corten - a special steel that rusts quickly and evely by design! Bridge builders and sculptors like it

It is not rusty scrap it is a treated corten equivalent.

A rant based on something fundamentally misunderstood..... On the internet..... Never.
