Screw sizes for loft boarding project

Longer ones than you have, as mentioned, probably about 90mm. But really, once the the thing is boarded it'll probably be fine with what you already have, pre-drilling the counter battens is a good idea too, mentioned by someone. I daresay they will sink into you counter battens a bit anyway
 
If you screw the chipboard to the massive floor joists you won't need to screw them to the existing ceiling joists - it won't fall over.

Unfortunately I need the 175mm battens to ensure I dont compress the loft insulation.
 
cdbe doesn't mean leave out the the counter battens, just that you could probably get away without even attaching your 175 joists to the existing once your chipboard is screwed down.

I understood what he meant, I was really just explaining why I need such large battens.
