Sealing joint between house and path

Hi all,

I would like to sort it while the sun is out and it might have dried out this crevice/crack.
The cellar is below this area and I have noticed the joist has rotted so I want to prevent further water ingress.
I have a tube of CT1 ready to go.

Is that what I need or would you recommend something else?

I'd power-wash it first, after chiselling away as much old rubbish as possible. Then let it dry thoroughly. Nothing sticks to dust.

I'd do a 45 degree bevel with a square trowel of the right size. Too big for a sealant tool, definitely don't use a spit on your finger finish!

Thanks, Ivor. Which sealant would you recommend? Would a mortar mix be better?

I have not got access to pressure wash but I'll use a hard brush and maybe a damp cloth.

which gap sealant would you use?

Personally, in my unqualified opinion, I'd clear it all out as described, force some decent building sealant right into the gap and smooth it off flush with the paving. Then after it's set put a bevel of mortar over it, but only if it's not moving. It looks like there's solid pointing at the sides so should be OK.

I'm guessing the old coal chute is under your path, there are loads of terraces built like this. In which case the slabs are probably a ton each and are definitely not going to rock about when you walk on them.

The coal chute itself is to the left of the door. However, the coal store is under the entry hallway.
