Ok guys first post here and I need some help. We moved in to our 1965 5 bed hone about 6 weeks ago. It had been empty for about a year prior to our move. the downstairs toilet/cloakroom (built with the house) has quite a nasty smell about it.
We have checked all the p-pipes and looked for leaks. we have ripped the toilet out, floorboards out and radiator out. We have blocked off the soil pipe. Dynorod have cleaned the soil pipe and looked for cracks with no luck but the smell is still lingering.
has anyone got any ideas please?

Maybe the traps dried up and there have been sewer gasses filling up the house for months with no ventilation.

We have been using it for 6 weeks now and the smell is still there

Is the trap holding water at all times? Have you checked it after flushing other toilets in the house to see if it gets sucked out?

The soil pipe isn’t linked to any other pipes in the house it goes directly to the main drain under the manhole cover

Have you lifted the manhole cover to see if there's a blockage?

Definitely a sewer smell? Hydrogen Sulphide has the aroma of rotten eggs, and is quite pungent. It arises from decomposing organic matter, so to have any quantity from a ventilated house drain would be fairly unusual if that drain was clear. I'd expect anything that did occur to be evacuated via the stack vent in a normal system.

Have Dynorob left you a copy of the CCTV survey?
