My TV started displaying coloured virtical lines across the entire screen. Searching the internet I found suggestions to tap the rear of the TV,and this fixed the problem. For a while. Over the next week, the problem returned, and each time needed a harder and more repeated tapping/banging, till eventually nothing removed the coloured lines.

More searching suggested the T Con would be the problem and may need replacing. I opened the rear and that's as far as I've got. Not even sure how to identify the T Con...

I hate throwing things away if they can be fixed so any suggestions for what can be done (short of replacing the TV) welcome!

It probably would have been useful to list the model number of your TV in the post to get some specific help because the size, shape and position of the board isn't exactly the same in all Sharp TVs.

I can offer some general guidance instead: Start with a search on Ebay for "T-Con Sharp [insert your model of TV here]" to get a general idea of the shape of board you're looking for. Some are square, some rectangular, others are a more complex shape. Bear in mind that the scale may be deceiving in photos, and do check that the vendor shows the exact board rather than a generic image.

Next, off to Youtube to watch some videos about T-Con board replacement in your model of TV, or models close to it.

If this or any other reply was helpful to you, then please do the decent thing and click the T-H-A-N-K-S button. It appears when you hover the mouse pointer near the Quote Multi-quote buttons. This is the proper way to show your thanks for the time and help someone gave you

The connectors get tired after a long time, corrosion etc. One dodge is to undo each connector and clean it and take it in/out afew times. Some boards have edge connectors with very small areas of contact which can fail so gently clrean and re- insert.
