Shed electric supply

Hello all.
I'm thinking of running power to my shed for a few lights and a few sockets.
I currently have an outdoor socket and was wondering if I tie into this, can I then run this to the shed where I'll have a consumer unit to then split the supply to lights / sockets.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Possibly, depends on what that socket is connected to.
Type of circuit, rating of fuse/circuit breaker, size of cable, is there an RCD for the circuit?

Unlikely that a shed would need a consumer unit for a few lights and sockets, and totally pointless if it's powered from an existing circuit.

Hi, thanks for your reply.

The outside socket is part of the "ground floor sockets" ring which is on a 32A breaker.

What I'm looking to know now is, can I tie into this and take a supply to the shed via armour cable in a 500mm trench and split it for sockets and lighting?

Smart thinking.
I hadn't thought about fusing it separately and had instead thought of the consumer unit / distribution board in the shed.

Would there be much difference in using 3c+1e to 2c+1e?

I believe you should be using swa.

I've always used 3 core , and used the yellow core as the earth and then bonded the armour to that also.

I'm not sure if it is possible to use the armour as the main earth, I'm sure someone with more knowledge will be along shortly

I've got 6mm swa to supply from the main consumer unit to a garage consumer unit.
The cable I'm now mentioning is for the inner lighting and power sockets.

I expect that your outside socket will be a SPUR from your sockets ring final. How many cables connect that outside socket? If only one cable, the FCU needs to go BEFORE the outside socket. so: ring>FCU>socket>SWA>shed

I've now tied into the main CU in a 32a breaker using 6mm swa.
