Having a wooden outbuilding put up, and it will have regular softwood T&G floorboards, and I'm wondering how best to treat them.

I guess the default, and what the building mnufacturer suggests, is PU varnish, but I've never been a fan of varnish for anything, much prefer penetrative treatments.

The building has two sections, one will be used as a shed, so people will be in and out with wet/muddy shoes, mower & wheelbarrow etc trundling, pots stored and inevitably moved by dragging about, patio furniture over-wintered and so on.

The other section will be a hobby room and DIY tool storage. Not a wood or metal workshop. Doormat eminently feasible.

Areas about 9 and 12 sq.m respectively.

Osmo oil (which?) or similar?

Not bothered if the floor changes colour over time.

Don't want to have to buff the finish.
