Should I remove paint before remove pipe elbow

Hiya,

I like to remove both side of the pipe elbows, which covered with paint - as the pictures below.

I would like to replace it with a new one for the tower rail.

Should just blow torch on it or remove the paint first? How can i avoid the wallpaper from getting burn from the heat?

Just blow torch it off use a heat mat well soaked in water.Clean it well before resoldering.

The elbow has an integral solder ring, to reuse it, should i place the lead in the ring or solder it as it is a normal elbow?

Why would you contemplate re-using the fitting?...as for "replace the lead in the ring" ...how you gonna do that then??..a tin of plumbers black is a tad more expensive than an elbow FFS...
Trust me , you won't be removing that elbow..
