shut down

hi all, when I have finished with the laptop, I just press start... shut down( after closing windows )
my wife reckons that is wrong and she insists on logging off then shut down as she says to just shut down is like leaving your house and not locking the door.. is she correct cheers P M

Nah when the computer shuts down that's it. When you start the computer again, you have to log in to your account on that computer. If your wife has an account on the laptop , she'd have to login whether she'd logged out or not on her last session.

Push her back into the kitchen where she belongs

There's some logic there, logging off would leave the computer potentially open to attack still but as above, once shutdown is involved there is no life, nothing can hack into a dead computer.
