Hi all,

after a nudge in the right direction for a simple CAd software package for project work, nothing too major required in terms of functions, but I'd like to draw up my plan first, then create a cutting list from my plan.

i.e. next project on my list is a new garden gate, i'd like to draw the gate complete, then break it down into component parts enabling me to order the right amount of material, cut the parts out, then assemble - rather than what I currently do which is measure as I go and cut to fit - takes too long and often leads to mistakes.

I know about Solidworks and Autocad and have used both but all abit expensive for what i'm after. Equally I've used sketchup but it doesn't seem too easy to break down into component parts to create a cutting list.

any advice would be great

I have used TurboCAD for many years and have found it really quite easy and certainly not as complicated as the more expensive professional ones, yet it does much more than I ever need.
I'm afraid I can't remember now how much it cost me, but I know it was a damned sight cheaper than the current range!

Still, I'd recommend it.

I've had a little look and a play - seems bloody complicated in comparison to sketch up. Apparently Sketchup has a "layout" function that'll do all I want, just need to pay for the pro license.

Fusion360 is available free to non-profit hobbyists and there are loads of tutorials on youtube

ISTR sketchup is web only for the free version though?

Get sketchup make 2017 for a download thats still free.
