How can I ensure the first row of planks for a new wood floor is as close to perfectly straight as I can?

The skirting board 'wavers' a bit. It looks straight and has a couple of 'bulges' that stick out (curving out to around 8mm to the rest of the skirting).

I have packers that I can adjust from 2-20mm - aiming for at least 10mm gap around edge.

I can adjust packers along the skirting baord, but how can I know the row is straight before continuing with further rows?

Dry Lay the first row straight.

Scribe a line with a pencil along the skirting onto the planks following the contour of the skirting.

Lift flooring and cut scribed line on each plank.

Refit and use this as your straight line of planks.
