SKYPE

Have downloaded Skype twice on a Windows 8 laptop.
Created an account etc but when i try to use it, i'm told
i have to purchase credits.
I thought Skype was free,so am obviously doing something wrong.
Could i get some advice please.

I think Skype is free Skype to Skype, but Skype to a landline or mobile is chargeable.

Are you trying to connect to email addresses or trying to use a phone number? as mentioned phone calls are chargeable.You need an email address or skype name.
