YES indeed :!: WTF is it about - and how can we stop it permanently ? .....speaking as a lowly non computer literate plumber

Ok, we have an update, it would seem it is being caused by a facebook like button, BUT at the same time we are also having reports that it has been fixed.

So can those experiencing the problem reply here is they are still having problems as of now. ps try using 'Ctrl' + 'F5' buttons to force a refresh of the page.

If anyone is still experiencing this please post what browser and version they are using please.

As I reported in the Electrics UK forum, the problem has (for me) gone away this morning.

If anyone is still having the problem and is contemplating using the Microsoft 'fix' linked to a couple of posts back, please first see my 'warning' in a recent post in the Electrics UK forum here. If you simply apply the MS ‘fix’ (which is designed to delay or prevent appearance of the 'warning' window, and hence delay or deny you the opportunity to terminate the problem script), you will make things worse.

Kind Regards, John

The script fault with IE8 with Vista has it would seem gone. Still annoying warnings about flash which I need to cancel. However I only use IE8 to test my website and there has never been a problem with FireFox.

Because of the attitude of Apple towards the use of Flash I have decided that I will not use Flash on my website so having IE8 flag up there is Flash content to me is good. But I am sure non Apple product users could easy down load the bits required for Flash use.

Still slow for me. Appears to be waiting a long time for the facebook widget to appear - not long enough to give a error but makes loading the main pages very slow. I'm using IE10

Sorted - go into settings and disable "Enable forum AddTHis Bookmark/Sharing buttons"
That may 'sort it' now that the primary problem with the script has seemingly gone away (maybe the FB widget is still loading slowly, for those who have it enabled). However, I've had that settings option disabled all along (so I don't see the FB 'button' etc.), but that didn't stop the FB script running incessantly and grinding things to a halt, prior to this morning.

Kind Regards, John

As Adam said if you go to Advanced Settings and set 'Enable forum AddThis Bookmark/Sharing buttons' to No, then the facebook button will not appear (or load).

JohnW2, if the above setting is set to No then the script for FB does not even load, it is not just a display setting, it removes it altogether.

Interesting - but I'm not at all sure what that's what I was seeing. As I illustrated in the Electrics UK discussion, I had the problem with the 'incessantly running script' when it was apparently 'waiting for' a response from Facebook, and that was when I had that setting set to 'No' ...

The moment I terminated the script, it stopped trying to connect to facebook and computer/website performance returned to normal.

Interesting, but if you look through the source code for the page there are no calls to facebook, and I have just confirmed using a monitoring plugin to view the requested URLs and there are no FB ones, very odd.
