Smeg A1 5-button timer

Our Smeg oven has stopped working. The 5-button timer is blank except for an 'A' in the top left corner. I have tried killing the power for 5 minutes, and pressing buttons (including 2+3 together), but it doesn't have any effect. Any ideas?
