Snap crackle and pop ...

I used to have a Ford Granada in my younger days and the previous owner had retarded the timing by 10 degrees so than when driving along if you switched the ignition on and off, it would backfire, loudly, very loudly, like a piece of heavy artillery. I utilised this facility about half a dozen times until one day it blew one of the back boxes off. I managed to weld it back on and reset the timing to the correct setting.

... what's with these idiots thinking they're cool driving around in cars that have modified exhausts that make loud snap crackle and pop noises?

(No, he does not have such vulgar proclivities himself).

I don't mind a V8 sounding engine or similar, but the people that have a crap exhaust that sounds like 100’s of bees trapped in a tin can, I have no explanation for that.

Because it can be awesome.

Mind you, I don’t drive my car round in the wee hours of the morning .

The very same reason, that they find the need to turn the music up and open the window, irrespective of the weather - it's about 'notice me'.

Don't forget the screech, as the clutch is pressed, to change gear. I was always taught, the best cars, are the ones which make the least amount of noise.
