Soldering next to gas pipe

I am going to solder 2 x 22mm tee joints, they are clipped next to a gas pipe, what precautions (if any) do I need to take ?
 
I've shoved an old ceramic tile then soldering matt over that in the way of gas pipe to protect.

Can you not make up that section int advance then join away from gas pipe?
 
I am not a plumber... perhaps turn off the gas and release any pressure first?
 
Ive always protected so the gas pipe don't even get warm. Not difficult to do that.

I've seen plumbers just get in with it. I guess the thinking is heat won't do anything unless gas is leaking out pipe just where you have the flame.

In case rising pressure as the gas heats up is a possible problem, might be worth leaving a gas ring on low while doing it.

Great idea , I've got plenty of ceramic tiles laying around, I'll put them to use. I will also wrap the gas pipe in a cold wet rag.

Alas due to the angling of the tees I need to keep it in place otherwise I would have just done the soldering outside.
 
1. Turn gas off at the emergency control valve, usually attached to the meter.
2. I wouldn't use a ceramic tile. Can shatter as bernardgreen suggests.
3. Use a soldering mat, and if practical, some crinkled up aluminium cooking foil between mat and gas pipe.
 
Tile then soldering matt over.
I've never had one shatter but possible but who cares.
