A while back, I modified a Sonoff rfr2 smart switch to work with my garage door motor.
What I needed was something which replicated a simple bell-button press (once for open, once for close), so I cut through the power lines on the circuit board which meant in 'inching' mode it just created continuity for 1 second.

The unit has stopped functioning correctly (tried the usual troubleshooting) so I am looking to replace it, but this time I would prefer to connect it to a relay rather than modify another unit. Is there such a thing as a simple 230v relay which when power is applied would create continuity? (but no voltage)

I have seen some other smart garage door openers but they are pricey.

Do you mean you want to operate the relay itself remotely via your phone, or operate it via a non latching device like you had before? If you mean the latter then any 240vAC relay with normally open contacts will suffice. If it's the former then I tried to do exactly what you are trying but had no success finding anything suitable they all supplied a voltage to the normally open contact or did not work with both android and iOS. Other than the ready made door openers.
I'll be interested to see if anyone can come up with something.
