Speaker of the House of Commons

Typical political bullshit...

They're more interested in the procedure than getting the result which was roughly agreed on!

Is Michael Massi the speaker now ?

:ROFLMAO:

Labour faced a an embarrassing rebellion if that happened
I’m not sure this really true, there was very little difference in the wording between SNP, Labour or Conservative.

People are making a massive fuss about a vote with very slightly different phrasing for something that is entirely academic as it makes diddly squat difference.

As upsetting as the situation is, this country faces massive structural economic and public service problems and that’s where British MPs should focus their attention.

Rough being the key word. In fact similar language with very different meanings

It's all ridiculous anyway, the Israelis aren't interested in what UK political parties, or Prince William, thinks about a ceasefire. They might take some notice of the US, but that's about it.
This says it all really

The SNP went on beyond the headline and was unilateral, very very different.

Labour in a hole for their own political advantage. That is not the purpose of Opposition Days. They are to hold the government to account, not settle scores between two different opposition parties

SNP have most to fear from Labour in the next GE

They are being stupid, the SNP are far closer to Labour than Conservatives, yet here they desperately trying to damage Labours chances.

The Speaker’s going all sackcloth and ashes again just now, saying he made a mistake, in fact he knew exactly what he was doing and is trying to wriggle out with a disingenuous apology. Beneath contempt

It was hardly any different

Unilateral….what’s the point in that, It won’t happen

It’s student politics……principle for the point of principle.

It made all the difference for Smarmy and that’s the point

Its important precisely because there is no check or balance on the speaker's powers other than kicking him out at the end of his term. Or making life very difficult for him, most MP' have secrets or embarrassing personal details to hide. But just think about it, if the Speaker can effectively do what he likes, government could be paralysed. That's why conventions are as important, more so, than hard and fast legal rules. They carry the power to change them. On top of that he has acted with the most obvious party political bias and succumbed to pressure. That alone suggests he is not fit for the role. But revenge will be a dish served cold in this case, I imagine.

I understand now why the SNP were angry. It was their Opposition Day, their motion and it should have been voted on first. All the hoo haa about Labour distracted from that and turned into effectively a debate on Labour's amendemnt. I think a lot of the rest though is confected anger, especially from the Tories. There are lots of ways in which they abuse the Commons procedures when it suits them. One of the lobby journalists got a text from a minister saying "We're not as angry at the Speaker as we're pretending to be!"
