Split Purlin Help please

We're purchasing our first home, the level 3 survey came back with a split purlin that may need to be replaced as temporary repair may fail.
Can this be fixed without replacing full purlin? Would this be costly?

We've been quoted 8k to replace and sellers are not willing to go half on fixing it. No room for negotiation.

I'd have thought say a pair of 5mm steel plates say 1.8m long to sandwich the purlin and bolted through would stop any further deflection. A local steel fabricator could cut/drill & supply and a carpenter or builder to install. The purlin should be propped from below to enable the crappy bit of strapping to be removed whilst you undertake the work so that needs a little thought. Nothing like £8k though.
