Hi there,

My car front right area has started making a squeaking sound, it started out breaking only here and there, developed into only when breaking all the time, then bumps, and potholes, now it's all the time (started 3 days ago)

I thought it was break discs but more leaning to a wheel bearing, any advice on things to check to know/eliminate options?

Caliper not floating maybe. You can lever back a bit and see if it stops. First time you break it will start making noise again.
Take to garage

Wheel bearings tend to drone and groan rather than squeak (as a general rule).......I'd remove the pads and give them a good clean, together with the surrounding area to get rid of any dust.
As above, the caliper needs to float on it's pins, and the piston within should be free to push back in.

Noises are difficult to answer online. 1 man's squeak is another's rattle or knock.

It sounds brake related but without taking a wheel off and looking it's difficult.

Good example of when distinguishing between "brake" and "break" correctly, does make a big difference in meaning.

Thank you for all the help try giving them a clean tonight. I recorded what it sounds like:

Wheel bearings tend to make a noise when the car is cornering - as the bearing loads and unloads, if you like.
When you check things out, if the pads need to be levered out of their housings then there is an issue.
Often enough I have to take the caliper holding bracket out and wire brush and file when the thing is in the vice. Time consuming maybe but after anointing with ceramic brake grease the assembly is good for ages.
Do check the inside face of the disc too - usually much more destruction evident on the side you can't see!
John :)
