Squeaking / screeching noise on my Astra

Recently I have noticed a squeaking / screeching noise on my Vauxhall Astra.
It seems to be getting louder and I'm not sure what is causing it. I can't figure out which area (front/back/side) of the car the noise is coming from. It sounds like two metal pieces could be 'rubbing' together, but that's just what it sounds like to me.

It happens...
  • only when driving in a straight line (whether or not I am accelerating),
  • and only after I have been driving for a short time (usually around 5 minutes but can vary).
It does not happen when...
  • I steer in either direction,
  • while braking,
  • or in the first few minutes after starting my engine.

Any suggestions as to what is causing it??

I'd suspect the brakes need cleaning out.....as the pads slightly rub on the discs, dust is generated which gives this characteristic squeal. Touching the brake pedal instantly stops this, so can you give it a try?
John :)

Sounds like that is what it is, as touching the brake does stop it.

I'll get someone to clean the brakes.

Thanks

David
