The starter motor on our escort zetec engine (1996) is obviously not disengaging correctly. When the engine fires the starter screeches for a split second. We are plannning on replacing it but dont seem to be able to locate it! :)

Any hints?

Thanks!

A Haynes manual ? They are pretty obvious and easy to change unless of course ford has bolted it on with octagonal nuts or something. Good luck.

I had the same thing on a 1991 Volvo I had a couple of years ago. Got some startled looks when starting up in town, but it never got any worse in the 9 months or so that I had the car. I don't see the point of spending money when you don't have to!

The positive lead from your battery goes to the starter, it should be easy enough to follow back.

on a 1996 the starter motor is locatedto the front of the engine at the right hand side at the bottom :)
, it changed on the zetec engine 1998 were it is then found at the back directly underneath the injector unit ,also the starter motors on the zetec engine are not as big as you would expect them to be so have a good luck you should spot it! :o
