Strange happenings using Chrome

I use TP Links for my broadband feed upstairs (from my Sky BB box) to this PC and Google Chrome. Windows 7 Home premium 8gb ram.

Very often I get drop outs from my connection where Google hangs. Shortly after my Network 3 indicator shows I am disconnected (my ipad is wireless but shows no disconnection so not the BB) The only way to get it working again is to unplug and plug back in the Tp Link.

Another issue is Chrome hangs for ever, even when there is a connection. Nothing I do can get it back unless I shutdown. The last occasion I shut down it actually froze on the "windows is powering down" screen. In the past when Chrome has done this the blue screen has reared it's head but rare. Also, when theses issues happen, my desktop doesn't function as it should. When I try to put files in the recycle bin, they stay on the desktop. I do wonder if there is some conflicting issues with Avast, Windows live mail and Chrome but of course it's nothing simple I can put my finger on.

I have run mailware Bytes and nothing detected. The PC is 2.5 years old so I can't see it being a hardware issue. Do any of these symptoms sound familiar ?

IRQ blue screens are usually down to hardware cards in the machine - like sound/video/usb cards etc. could also be caused by Anti Virus software.
If the PC is 2.5 years old, likely there's not much in the way plugged in. If the BYOD keeps happening, start by disabling AV software and removing any extra devices connected to it, see if that helps.

For Chrome - check extensions, sometimes some dodgy stuff gets installed and is hard to remove (settings, extensions in Chrome). Could also try deleting users or re-installing from scratch (make sure you back up bookmarks etc.). Does IE behave the same way?

Hope that helps

Thanks. It's an Intel(R) core (TM) i5-3570 CPU @ 3.40 GHZ, 8 MB Ram I don't use IE but I found installed in my extras in Chrome something called "chrome docs" which I don't remember adding so I have deleted that. I have Avast as my antivirus but I have a feeling I have less issues when it is disabled. I am just paranoid about viruses.
