I've recently started to do some work for a mate as he has got a lot on, I have set up my own company(I'm do plumbing/gas), do I just invoice my mate or am I subcontracting and do I need to contact the revenue? Bit new to all this so any help appreciated.

tell them you are in business and what your accounting period is.

your accountant may advise you on the best date to use for your year end

thanks, Got to arrange to see an accountant but in the meantime can I work for my mate and just invoice him or will I need to get a CIS card?

have you set yourself up as a limited company? if so then you can simply invoice him without the need for cis as the companies tax (thats who is earning the money not you) will be dealt with in that way.
