Over the last week or so, there's been a need for the use of superscript and subscript characters. I don't suppose it's been the first time. But only the [sup]2 ²and [sup]3 ³ are available. Although the ¹ is also available via the keyboard shortcuts.

I appreciate it might fill up the list a bit too much to make them available as a pick 'n mix.
But how about just allowing access to the [sup] and [sub] codes via the code editor.
I appreciate its use would be fairly infrequent but the posters that need it will soon become aware of how to use it, especially if it's as easy as other codes.

The ¹²³ you see aren't BBCode [sup][/sup], they are actual characters. As is ª.

What you suggest would be useful. In the meantime, whilst it is no help re superscripts, you can get an approximation of subscripts by making the size smaller.

H2O, for example. Better than nothing.
