My elderly neighbours ordered the above expecting to keep their existing landline. They were left with a Grandstream box but their phone is dead. I set up the Internet connections to their devices but the phone has me stumped. Do they need a special VOIP phone? They have DECT at the moment. Can someone talk me through the correct connection please as they are without a telephone at the moment. Thanks.

All new phone connections now use VOIP over the Internet. Their DECT phone can continue to work as before but its base station has to be plugged into a phone socket on the modem. It may fit right away, if not you will need a small adapter that you can buy in most DIY or hardware shops.

When there is a power cut the loss of the VoIP connection ( router without power ) means the VoIP telephone will not work.

Does the phone plug into the eero or the Grandstream box? They were asked if they had a mobile to make 999 calls when they ordered the fibre line. I think that's a legal requirement for providers before they can action an installation. I'm assuming that their number will be stored somewhere in the system and I won't need to set that up.

Credit to that salesperson.... Not all sales people mention "no power = no phone"

It should be but I have heard of people being given a different phone number for their VoIP phone service.

On the subject of numbers you will probably have to update their address book(s) to add the local area code to all their local calls

Calling their next door neighbour ( for example 654321 ) will require dialing 0xxxx 654321 where xxxx is their area code.

Thanks to all for the useful advice. It took some time to remove the base station from a wall downstairs (screwed in) but then it all worked with the little adaptor that TT had supplied. The number is still the same and yes, they now have to use area codes for every call out. All the remote phones work too, which is a relief.
The TT installer put the eero app on their mobile and I had a quick look when I installed their WiFi devices the other day. All the settings are in there and I assume there is no Web interface available like the one I have for my BT hub.
Eero doesn't have WPS and their printer uses WiFi so I'm going round again to try and connect.

Printer now working via Ethernet. But I had to move the DECT base upstairs (from the downstairs hallway) into a small office in order to use the Grandland equipment for the primary phone. Now the two remote phones downstairs are working intermittently and throw up a message saying they cannot communicate with the base. Is there a way to get around this? I think I read somewhere that the base station should be centrally located and ideally downstairs in a house.

as an aside

i have been offered for free but dont need the speed so will wait and see if i will be offered an even small "enticement" to swap as eventually they want to remove the copper
