New building regulations came into force in June 2022, via Approved Document L.

Paragraphs 4.16-4-17 in L1(a) concerns the ‘continuity of insulation’ in new dwellings, with requirements for insulation to be unbroken and consistent.

New dwellings also have U value requirements under paragraph 4.7 and table 4.1.

Extensions and Conservatories however, are covered in section 10. Under ‘extension of a dwelling’, paragraphs 10.7-10.13 which refer to the insulation requirements, only mention compliance with the U-value requirements of section 4.7-4.8 and table 4.2; there is no mention of ‘continuity of insulation’, such as there is for new dwellings.

So it looks to me as if there is no requirement for continuity of insulation for extensions/conservatories. Is that correct?

Insulation has always had to be continuous in new or refurbishment, so it's nothing new.
